Even though it doesn’t have a name yet, the trail from Timboon to Port Campbell is now open and is being enjoyed by many happy trail users!
Stage 1 of the trail is from Timboon to Port Campbell.
Trail length is 19.5km – trail surface is a mixture of gravel, reinforced plastic boardwalks and sealed concrete pathway, trail is off road with 4 road crossings.
While the trail is complete from Lambert Street Timboon to the cnr of Great Ocean Road and Desaily Street Port Campbell it is not finished.
Trail users will need to dismount in Port Campbell to cross the Great Ocean Road and continue by road or walking on footpath 300m into the township.
Parking is available at each end of the trail with limited parking along the trail length (see below).
Well you’ll get a printed one eventually but not yet. See interactive map below and while it is far from final, you can download a temporary map here.
If you are in the area and ready to ride you can also take a photo of one of our temporary maps near the start of the trail in Timboon or Port Campbell.
We are not expecting trail users will get lost or disoriented on a trail that only goes in two directions 🙂
Not yet! But as the working title for the project suggests there are plans that the trail will continue east to link to Loch Ard Gorge, 12 Apostles, Gibson Steps and Princetown.
We don’t recommend riding on the Great Ocean Road due to a narrow road shoulder, poor sight lines and view distracted drivers.
Check out the Port Campbell – 12 Apostles – Princetown backways link as an alternative route for Mountain and Gravel bikes that avoids large sections of the Great Ocean Road.
The trail commences adjacent to the swimming pool on Lambert St, Timboon.
Parking available directly opposite the swimming pool.
Nearest toilets are 200m away near the Timboon Ice Creamery on the Cnr of Barrett St and Bailey St.
Water is available at the Wannon Water Station at the start of the trail.
The trail commences on the west side of the intersection of Desaily Street and Great Ocean Road, Port Campbell.
We advise leaving your car at your accommodation. Parking is available at the Port Campbell Recreation Reserve on Desaily St. 300m from the start of the trail.
Accessible toilets (and MLAK) facility are located 280m south of the start of the trail at the Port Campbell Public Purposes Reserve.
Water is available outside the toilets and at the BBQ area within the reserve.
There is a small car park, toilet, water filling station and tool station at Paratte Recreation Reserve, 9km from Timboon and 10.5km from Port Campbell.
